My Review
5/5 Stars
I think haunting describes the theme of this book so well. In my opinion, the scariest stories are those that focus on showcasing the idea that humans can be monsters. This book is a shining example of that.
Told from the perspective of a little girl, Mella, a horrifying situation is told from an innocent angle. Like Room by Emma Donoghue, it’s the purity of the MC that makes the story so heart wrenching.
What I liked about this book was that it was written as if Mella were speaking which makes it even easier to connect to her pain and her confusion and her eventual desire to be the hero of the story. It’s that journey of emotions that had me in tears by the end of the book.
Be warned that if you do pick up this book, you’re setting yourself up for one emotional ride.
