My Review
5/5 Stars
Where to begin with this review. I loved so many aspects of this book that I’m not sure what to call attention to first.
A small summary: Oak Hollow is a small town where nothing really happens. That is until a mysterious new funeral home pops up in the middle of the town.
This book is told through several characters’ perspectives, each one exploring a different aspect of the mystery of the Mnemic Funeral Home. I loved the division of the good and bad characters, the struggles of what each one wanted, and how those struggles drew them to the funeral home and its creepy owner, Lloyd.
Another thing I liked about this book was the way the horror was gradually woven into the story working from a common fear—the fear of death—to something much more cosmic and horrifying.
The descriptions in some of the gorier scenes were so unique. Even when things got weird, the way the author wrote the scenes made it so easy to picture it all.
In conclusion, this story has Needful Things-esque vibes and will stay with you long after reading.
Highly recommended!
