Summary
WARNING: This book contains blood, violence, sh*t, assault, inc*st, creepy crawlies, and a very graphic birth scene.
Washing up at the edge of a lake, Xia is badly beaten with no memory of how she ended up that way.
Seeing smoke swirling above the tree line, she uses what strength she has to follow it.
Arriving upon a cabin, she seeks help from the ones who live there. When she’s thrown down into their basement, she quickly realizes she made a mistake.
Her memory begins to flood back in waves and she becomes familiar with where she is and who is holding her captive. She does everything she can to fight for her life again, but when it comes to trauma… Nothing is ever what it seems.
My Review
5/5 Stars
When Xia wakes up on the edge of a lake dirty and bloody, she has no memory of who she is or how she got there. Her only memory is her name, and even that much she isn’t certain of. When she stumbles across a woman in the woods nearby, she’ll have to face the difficult decision of determining if she, and her entire family, are friend or foe.
This book had me feeling all the emotions. The author was masterful in the way she described Xia’s struggles and feelings to us. I never saw the ending coming.
I loved everything about this book and found it very hard to put down. It’s an extreme horror piece with some awesome scenes of revenge later on in the story. IT gave me “I Spit on Your Grave” vibes.
Perfect story of female rage!
