My Review
4/5 Stars
There’s something uniquely unsettling about small-town horror, and this novel delivers that eerie atmosphere in spades. In Groves Peak, an unspoken bargain has shaped the town for generations: the men must answer the Siren’s call, and the women must pretend not to notice. In return, the town thrives. But when one especially cruel act shatters that fragile agreement, men start turning up dead.
This is an intensely atmospheric story that embraces slow-burn horror. Rather than rushing into it, the novel takes its time immersing readers in the lives of its characters and the rhythms of everyday life in Groves Peak.
What makes this story especially compelling is its moral complexity. At first glance, it’s easy to cast the Siren as the villain, but the deeper the story goes, the more that assumption is challenged. Every character carries flaws, secrets, and questionable choices. That emotional and ethical ambiguity kept me deeply invested from start to finish.
Dark and powerful. This will be loved by readers who prefer folksy water horror, slow burn tension, and dark secrets lurking beneath the surface of small-town life.
