My Review
5/5 Stars
Set in New York in 1955, we’re introduced to Ezra who is a little… off. Every day she hears a strange humming sound that isn’t really there. Or is it? Is it all in her head, or is something much darker calling out to her? Haunted by a truth she can’t quite grasp, Ezra’s search for answers begins after a chance encounter with a mysterious street vendor. Except the truth will come at a price.
I think my favorite part of any P.D. Alleva book is the effortless way he’s able to create an unsettling, atmospheric tension that lingers throughout the entire book. With Ezra’s Secret, it was no different. Despite its shorter length, the tension is present from the very first page, growing stronger with every revelation about Ezra and the life she’s been forced to endure.
Throughout this book, I was sad for her, I was mad for her, I was feeling every possible thing there was to feel for her. Every new piece of the puzzle only deepened my emotional connection to her story.
Ezra’s Secret is a psychological horror novella that balances eerie suspense with genuine emotional depth. It’s unsettling, thought-provoking, and ultimately full of heart.
